2월 25일(화요일) 오전, 가정법을 주제로 한 무료 법률 교육 및 상담 행사가 진행되었습니다.이번 행사는 미국 법률 지식 부족으로 가정폭력이나 이민 사기 등 어려움을 겪는 동포들을 돕기 위해 마련되었습니다. 시민참여센터 법률 TF 위원인 이선재 변호사님은 ‘이혼에 관한 궁금증’을 주제로 실질적인 법률 정보를 제공하였으며, 뉴욕가정상담소(KAFSC)의 박소영(벨라) 이중언어 상담사는 가정폭력의 유형과 피해자 지원 방안에 대해 설명했습니다. 또한 뉴욕시의원 산드라 황은 과거 가정법 변호사로서의 경험과 자신의 이민 배경을 공유하며 조선족 동포들과 소통했으며, 전 뉴욕시 경찰국 경감 장원준은 이민 신분과 관계없이 폭력을 당할 경우 반드시 911에 신고해야 한다는 점을 강조했습니다. 강의 후에는 이선재 변호사님의 1대1 법률 상담이 진행되었으며, 사후 설문조사에서 참여자 전원이 높은 만족도를 보였습니다. 많은 참석자들은 가정폭력의 정의와 유형, 미국의 이혼 소송 절차에 대해 처음 알게 되어 큰 도움이 되었다고 전했습니다.

On Tuesday morning, February 25, a free legal education and consultation event focused on family law was held to support community members facing challenges such as domestic violence or immigration-related fraud due to limited knowledge of U.S. law. Attorney Sunjae Lee from the Civic Engagement Center’s Legal Task Force provided practical information on divorce-related legal issues. Bella Park, a bilingual counselor from the Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC), explained different types of domestic violence and available support services for survivors. New York City Council Member Sandra Ung shared her experience as a former family law attorney and discussed her immigration background while engaging with members of the Chinese-Korean community. Former NYPD Inspector Wonjoon Jang emphasized that anyone experiencing violence should call 911, regardless of immigration status. Following the presentations, one-on-one legal consultations were conducted with Attorney Lee. Post-event surveys showed a 100% satisfaction rate, with many participants stating that they gained a better understanding of domestic violence and the U.S. divorce process.
